Treating Exercise Time as Sacred and Non-Negotiable
🚶♀️Honoring exercise time, Practicing rest, Showing up well, and A food & nutrition database

Hello there,
You may have noticed a slightly new format for the newsletter.
I’m moving it over to Substack simply because I like the idea of having a clean homepage where you can check back on any of the previous issues.
I’ll work on filling in the back issues but in the meantime, here is this week’s post
This week in building health

Treating Health Time as Sacred
Even as a health coach, I find that it’s easy to let go of exercise time.
Ideally, I’d like to workout 3x a week- for about one hour. But the minute I get busy, it’s easy to push it aside. Looking back on the past week I have one 1-hour session, and one 30-minute workout. It got replaced by doing groceries and cleaning the house instead.
I know exercise is valuable, but it’s just too easy to put it off.
But exercising is such a high leverage activity for me.
1 hour of gym takes me from 0 to 60 minutes. And the benefits of that are immense.
But an extra 1 hour of working takes me from 8 hours to 9 hours. It’s not the same gain.
I want to reframe my exercise time as the sacred-non-negotiable activity in my day.
Block off the time during the week
Tell my partner that I’m going to focus on nothing but exercise (be unreachable)
Show up and do it
The mental benefits of it are more than worth it.

Unlocking Your Potential: What it Means to Do Your Best
3 minutes | Shane Parrish
Doing your best isn’t about effort.
“Doing your best is about the position you find yourself in when you show up. Over the long term, the average person who constantly puts themselves in a good position beats the genius who finds themselves in a poor position.”
Health works this way too.
Focus on your environment and not on exerting willpower all the time.

How to Rest Well
13 minutes | Psyche Guides
If you want to perform well when you exercise and work, then you have to know how to rest. In a culture that focuses just on productivity, knowing how to rest becomes a super power. Treat resting as a skill- practice doing it well and see how it can 10x your life.

Resource | Examine.com
Someone shared this resource with me and it looks like it’s going to be a staple in my bookmarks.
It’s always tricky finding good information online (and search engines + AI chatbots aren’t making it easier right now)
Examine.com is the largest database of nutrition and supplement research I’ve found online.
When someone has a question about food or supplements, I send them here first.
Thanks for reading!
